The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia Online Previous: JOSEPHUS; FLAVIUS Next: JOSHAH JOSESjo'-sez, jo'-zez (Ioses): (1) One of the brethren of Jesus (Mark 6:3; in Matthew 13:55 the Greek is "Joseph," and the Revised Version (British and American) so renders). (2) A son of Mary, perhaps identical with (1) (Matthew 27:56; Mark 15:40,47). See BRETHREN OF THE LORD . (3) A name of Barnabas (Acts 4:36 the King James Version, where again Greek and the Revised Version (British and American) have "Joseph"). See BARNABAS .
